My whole family unit just honey information technology!! Instead of using jar of dried beefiness I just utilise 8oz. thin slices of beef lunchmeat "Budding" and information technology a lot cheaper!! Not salty at all and you don't fifty-fifty have to rinse!! You must attempt it and believe me, you won't be disappointed!!!!

Just like moms, minus the pepper and her beefiness came out of a pocketbook. TIP: If you find this dish also salty, soak the beef in common cold h2o for near 10 minutes, and drain. Try a piece, if its still also salty, soak in fresh water for 10 more minutes.

Condolement Nutrient! Once I got the roux down (it took 2 tries), it was fantastic. I added the ceyenne pepper, seasoned salt and cracked blackness pepper. We used the Budding Luncheon Meat. Served it on toasted spud bread buns. I bet it would exist great on biscuts! The boys scarfed them down faster than I could serve them. Goes down well with a BIG glass of cold MILK!

It'due south funny that the recipe says that SOS stands for "Aforementioned Ole Stuff". That's the overnice version simply not the original. It's really "Due south*** On a Shingle" and the first word isn't "Stuff". That's what the military has been calling it since way earlier my fourth dimension. My mom merely chosen it "Creamed beef" simply even she knew what it was really called. She was just as well polite to use the real name. ;~} My mom used to make this with browned hamburger from fourth dimension to time. Now I'm the one who does all of the cooking for my wife and ii kids and I seem to exist the only 1 who loves it. I apply browned hamburger and a trivial minced onion and simply use the fat from the hamburger to melt the onion and brand the roux. But sprinkle the flour over the cooked hamburger and onion and cook a bit. And so whisk in the milk. I add together lots of black pepper and sometimes a splash of worcestershire sauce. It'southward skilful over toast just even improve over buttermilk biscuits. It's basically the same recipe equally sausage gravy only with beef instead. Serious comfort food for me but it'south likewise seriously low brow cuisine. Add together a little chopped parsley if you lot want to pretend it's fancy. I was a chef in some pretty overnice restaurants for years merely I still beloved the back woods, low forehead, peasant food like this. Makes me desire to whip upwards a batch correct at present!

If this recipe is too salty for you, just eddy the chipped beef in a little water for a few minutes, then drain off the water, which will take some the salt away with it.
eleven/11/2007
I was surprised at how like shooting fish in a barrel this recipe was. At first i was concerned that there was too much beef for the recipe but information technology turned out perfect! Information technology is rare to discover a creamed chipped beefiness recipe that is thick - this is it! i would like a lilliputian more season merely i dont know what else to add. I love the cayenne but i experience like there could exist another spice that i am not thinking of. Anyway it was groovy and i would definitely recommend this recipe just as it is!
12/03/2006
I figured out that I have to about double the sauce recipe. I still only use ane jar of stale beefiness, simply with more than sauce, it's non equally salty. Though information technology is definitely something that you tin make quickly for everyone to eat. We make all the time.
04/17/2007
This recipe is K-R-E-A-T!!! If yours turned out also salty, you probably used the jarred dried beef and should accept RINSED it first. We used fresh stale beef from our local locker. Fifty-fifty my EXTREMELY picky 13 yr old girl and 5 year former son LOVE this stuff...and inquire for it on a regular basis!
07/31/2002
I used every bit someone else had suggested cafeteria meat(Italian beef from Cub Foods)and it was awesome...We served over hash brown patties(for those that are non big bread eaters)...Next time I'll demand to double the recipe...it was gone in one sitting.
05/23/2003
My husband loved it, my 12 year old son declared it his "favorite meal", and nosotros all wished I'd made more. The funny thing is-after reading the reviews, I boiled the jarred dried beef a minute, then rinsed information technology off...and so we all had to Add table salt (and pepper) to our portion...Become Figure!
02/17/2008
Fantastic, my husband loved information technology. Just what I was looking for. I mixed almost 2/3 of the milk and the rest was foam. Also a great base to add extra's to taste
04/fifteen/2011
You will have more flavor if you tear up the beef into big bite size pieces, saute in the butter for a chip and then add the flour and milk.
04/fourteen/2011
add Nutmeg to taste...i always do that...it adds flavor and you dont even know its there
02/15/2009
I have been making Chipped Beef for years and I learned from watching my mother. I don't use a written recipe only I use the stale beef in the jar. I cutting the beef into modest pieces and saute it in the butter a few minutes so that the beef flavor escapes into the butter and then I add together the flour and milk. Yous can also add a small-scale amount of beefiness bullion granules. This recipe is even better if you get in the day before y'all plan to swallow it! Great condolement nutrient!
11/07/2011
My mom always made this when I was a little girl and I've fabricated information technology for my family for years. I start out with parkay margarine (it has more season than butter). I melt that and then stir in my beef. My favorite is to get information technology from a deli only that is usually non possible so buddig beefiness in the packages is the next best thing. I mix that with the parkay until lightly brown. I pour the milk into my tupperware gravy maker and add the flour and shake. I pour this mixture over elevation of the beef and butter and cook until heated and slightly thick. It is then much easier than trying to mix the flour and butter.
04/14/2011
Try scooping out a baked potato, mixing the potato with the chipped beefiness mixture (sans cayenne pepper for me). And so fill the potato shell, put grated cheddar cheese on superlative and warm in oven until cheese melts.
04/14/2011
This is a skilful recipe which I used except for the cayenne-I used black pepper instead. But over the years I tweaked it. Melt the butter in the pan, and so put shredded dried beef in the butter. Permit it sizzle on medium heat for iii-four minutes, stirring often. It will develop a better season by doing that - and requite it more of a chew factor. Then add the flour, stir until 'roux' develops, add together the milk and (just) pepper (no common salt necessary. simmer till thickened and bubbly. Yous tin can as well throw in a pocket-sized can of drained baby peas (or frozen) - like a one-half cup; and if you similar mushrooms, toss some (canned, drained) of those in also. I personally similar it over biscuits instead of toast.
04/15/2011
Only seeing this listed, brought dorsum many memories of my mom, opening upwards that tiny jar of either Hormel or Armour Chipped Beef. A dish that she prepared several times a year. I too would rinse off the excess table salt, tastes have changed and and then has the information nigh too much sodium; dorsum when I was a little boy, in that location was non that much processed food around and the amount of table salt that was used to cure this chipped beef wasn't much of an effect--all the same today, that is non the case. A great, American, comfort food particular and similar some of the other respondents, I was in the war machine and this was called by a proper name that doth non be listed here.
04/15/2011
S**T on a Shingle. Dad hates it as he had information technology every day in the service. Mom fabricated information technology for us. Originally information technology was canned or bagged chipped meat/beef, milk gravy and toasted white bread. No curry or cayenne at all. But salt and black pepper. And BTW, milk gravy IS made with a roux, which is just a fancy French way of telling you to cook off the butter/flour mixture to get full flavor before adding the milk. Oh and FORGET THE MERLOT! Try a cold dark beer, that volition stand up to the table salt in the meat. Besides really good over egg noodles.
07/09/2012
OK - if the beef isn't pond in the cream sauce, yous've washed it incorrect. If the toast isn't completely covered in sauce, you've done it wrong. If y'all tin eat information technology with your fingers, you've done it wrong. If yous only put it on toast, you are missing out. Attempt it over your hash browns, or scrambled eggs, or both.
04/22/2008
This was so simple and and so good. I used the Budding sliced beefiness and it was not salty at all. My husband liked information technology alot. I made to much so we were going to have leftovers the next 24-hour interval for luncheon - BIG mistake because this does not reheat well at all, The sauce gets lumpy. Very good and simple recipe / Thank you lot for sharing !!
04/xiv/2011
To raise this dish to a higher level, sweat a couple of TBSP finely chopped shallots in the butter earlier adding the flour for the roux. Make using half and one-half and plenty of freshly ground blackness pepper. Serve over toasted English language muffins. I always soak my beefiness in some cold water before chopping and adding to the white sauce.
10/12/2008
Well, I started reading the reviews and constitute that nigh of them were the aforementioned. This is what we used to have in the Air Forcefulness and called it SOS but it didn't stand for "Same old Stuff". Information technology stood for "South*** on a Shingle" and most of us asked for it by that name. Pepper wasn't in the classic recipe and if y'all desire to keep it classic you cannot add any of the other "stuff" either. I accept e'er used the Buddig packs. If y'all desire to try something ameliorate attempt using the Buddig packs of ham - substituting it for the beef. I call information technology "Sham on a Shingle" and information technology is the simply way that I go far now.
04/16/2011
Spend a little actress and buy yourself Armour Stale Beef. Information technology makes this a smashing Chipped Beef Gravy. Chipped Beef gravey on toast whatsoever day of the week for this bunch. The cayenne pepper is a nice touch likewise. I quickly run warm water over the dried beef to remove some of the salt. I try never to add table salt as it seems to suspension downwards the essence of this delicious gravy.
02/21/2008
I grew up adding the beef equally shortly as the white sauce was started! Possibly thats why it never tasted salty to me or anyone else who has ate it since its soaked in the "gravy" for a little while. I likewise add lots of shredded cheese and make the sauce cheesy. My family unit admittedly loves this. Cheap and easy meal.
04/21/2011
Dissimilar other "reviewers," I prepared the recipe exactly as written. I used the dried beef called for, not hamburger or Walmart beefiness. Despite the fact that the beef label but suggested, rather than specifying, rinsing the beef, I did non do so because the recipe never mentioned rinsing. The outcome was inedible because of the saltiness. If I try this again I will definitely rinse next time. Lisa, if the beef is to be rinsed, say so in the recipe. Oh, and S.O.S. definitely does not correspond "same old stuff."
04/14/2011
I utilize 2 packages of Buddig sliced beef and add a nuance or 2 of Worcestershire sauce to the cream sauce instead of cayenne.
04/14/2011
If you would like more of the dried beef flavor, saute the dried beef with the butter to release its oils 'before' adding the flour. Makes an incredible divergence and changes this iv star into a five star recipe.
04/14/2011
This is just similar my Nanny used to make. The only matter I did different is we eat ours over potatoes. Simply boil the potatoes, mash them on your plate. Add some butter and common salt and pepper and put the chipped beefiness over it. That is always how we ate it growing upwardly. Oh, and I leave the skin on my tater but the kids like it without! Cheers for this reveiw. I haven't had this in ages. Bring back great childhood memories with my Nanny (grandma).
04/fourteen/2011
I usually use the packaged beef also, just I usually saute it in the butter for a few minutes and so add the flour to the pan and stir until the butter is absorbed. Add the milk and stir until thickened. Information technology seems to give the white sauce a trivial more season.
01/17/2009
This is one of my most favorite comfort foods. I made it for my kids this morning time. 1 kid loved it, the other wouldn't touch it. I used the sliced beef in the packages like my mom did when nosotros were piddling and I added in half-dozen crumbled hard-boiled eggs. Truly comfort food at it'due south all-time. It'south good over biscuits just for true trashy gustation, best over cheap toasted, buttered white staff of life.
11/08/2008
Very tasty. I word of caution - don't exist tempted to add together salt to the white sauce because the chipped beefiness is very salty.
04/14/2011
Mmm, we love this i at present, and I grew up on it as well. Even better is creamy egg on toast, make the same white sauce but throw in chopped hard boiled eggs instead of the chipped beef. My 4 year onetime loves it! Or a can of peas for creamed peas on toast. Whatsoever of these options are perfect for comfort food!
08/12/2011
One of my favorite comfort foods for breakfast. I add about a tsp of garlic pulverization and onion powder and some white pepper! I too get chipped stale beef from the cafeteria! I sometimes serve this over homefries likewise!
03/27/2002
Followed recipe to the T and it was the saltiest meal I take ever eaten. Hook me upward to the water hose. Liked the consistency of the roux, but once dried beefiness hit it...........it was all over. I'm going to endeavour it with vegetables and chicken or tuna; and maybe hamburger.
05/eleven/2011
But like Mom's! Both my young boys ate this up. Quite a feat since my youngest (2) doesn't similar meat.
05/04/2012
We grew up on this beingness a Navy family. Of course, SOS stood for something else. :) This is wonderful comfort food. It's super over home made biscuits as well.
04/fourteen/2011
While the recipe is fantabulous, I quite ofttimes make information technology using very lean ground beefiness. Brown the beef in a modest pot, add together the flour to the beefiness, stir, then add together the milk to the mixture. It will thicken quite fast and eliminates the chore of making a roux. I then add a touch of wostershire sauce and some onion powder, garlic pulverization and salt/pepper to taste.
11/eleven/2009
I liked this. I added a little onion powder and a little worcestershire sauce. Served it on toasted english muffins. Very skillful. Cheers.
04/14/2011
One of my favorite comfort foods from my childhood. Made more special beacuse only my male parent and I liked information technology. We made it with Budding packaged meat when everyone else had something ameliorate to do. When I make it at present I wish I could share it with him.
03/06/2010
very good, but not enough gravy for that amount of beefiness. i used a 4.5oz jar of sliced dried beef and doubled everything else to make it perfect!
05/20/2010
This is a good starting point! My mom's best friend makes this all of the fourth dimension and I have fond memories of it growing up:) She adds a small chopped onion to the butter while making the roux. Likewise Velveeta (to your liking) cubes to the white sauce and a piddling sherry or white wine tops it off! She likewise always served this over the frozen puff pastry puffs (not the sheet). Great served with peas! I Love this for dinner, such a wonderful comfort meal for me:) Thanks for sharing!
01/11/2013
My husband has been talking about the creamy chipped beef his mom served him when his was a child so I decided to get in for him. She is no longer with united states of america so I couldn't ask her for her recipe and I came across this one and thought I'd requite information technology a try. My husband loved information technology with the exception that he, like many others, thought it was as well salty so next time I will rinse the meat. Changes I made: I added onion with the melted butter and I added the meat to the onions earlier the flour. I used two cups of milk instead of ane.v cups and I add together a sprinkle of nutmeg. My married man said it was perfect except for the salt.
01/07/2010
This is your basic, quondam fashioned recipe for SOS. And you know what? It's still easy, and information technology's nevertheless pretty well received. My not-meat-loving kids really similar it, and it is sooooo fast to make.
09/23/2010
I fabricated this for my husband, after he had been begging for me to discover a recipe for SOS. I rinsed the dried beefiness from the jar in warm water, but hubby said it was still very, very salty, and for him to mutter about saltiness is rare! He said the SOS the Navy served was much meliorate! The sauce looked good, but side by side time I would utilise corned beef or something else as well the jar of dried beef.
04/fourteen/2011
We accept eaten this every Easter Sunday, for the past 50 years. Here's our family unit'due south twist. First we make a roux with butter, onions, Wondra flour & whole milk. A nice rich white sauce. The chipped beef is sliced & then must be soaked in warm water to get the saltiness out. The difficult boiled colored easter eggs are peeled and chopped & get into the white sauce when it's finished. Serve over toast. Some pastel color comes out from the dye on to the white of the egg & it's very eastery!
04/16/2011
I grew upwardly eating this for breakfast, made exactly similar this recipe. Sometimes I want it for supper and I will serve it over biscuits and add together frozen green peas to the creamed beefiness. YUMMY!
08/06/2012
Just like my Mom used to make, then creamy and skilful.
05/03/2011
Practiced, solid recipe - brought back memories of i of dad's specialties when I was a kid. I found the table salt level fine without rinsing the dried beefiness, but I did brand a niggling extra on the white sauce so that may have helped. Added some croaky black pepper, served over rice - YUMMM!
04/14/2011
This as well is xlent if y'all use Pork Breakfast Sausage. Fry it, bleed it & crumble it into the sauce.
04/fourteen/2011
Nearly exactly how I accept made it for many years. Anyone from war machine families Know this term came from them and was simple just like this recipe is. Past the way, I did make this exactly and it was proficient. I usually fried my chipped beef in the butter get-go for more flavour. Skillful over biscuits too. Toast is the bomb though. In my stance.
12/05/2007
Yup, this is my grandmother's and my female parent'due south recipe before her, although, nosotros don't utilise an 8 oz jar of beef. For this much sauce, a 2.5 oz jar is more than sufficient for us, and helps keep information technology less salty overall. For the affiche who was wondering was additional spice could be added ... the underground is always nutmeg. A SMIDGE only, not more than that, lends a nutty spice to this dish, much like it does to Alfredo sauce. I made this tonight and served it over toast cubes. We've also fabricated this and served it over toasted dried rolls. it's also quite adept over crushed breadsticks.
04/fifteen/2011
Awesome - have made this for years and likewise use the Buddig make - we similar the corned beefiness. Add together a nuance of nutmeg for an actress flake of seasoning. Then Good
01/01/2011
I just made this for New year's day's Day brunch. I tripled the recipe and added i/two teaspoon garlic powder and 1/2 teaspoon dried mustard. That is how my mom used to make it when I was a kid. Information technology was one of the first entries to go! Simple and yummy. I wish I could find stale beefiness without nitrates.
10/25/2010
My mom has been making this since I was a child, she had learned information technology from her mom who learned how how to make it in the Regular army ... I needed some comfort food today and couldn't phone call my mom up since she's on vacation and so I turned hither. I'm so glad I establish this, it was exactly how I remembered it from my childhood. My mom always used the packets of sliced beef from the deli and it always comes out great! Cheers for sharing! This was perfect for such a dreary mean solar day and during midterms!
eleven/09/2007
This brings back childhood memories. I didn't care for creamed chipped beef as a child, merely I like it better as an adult.
03/10/2008
I think my mom making this on occasion growing upward. I did rinse the chipped beef to try and reduce some of the saltiness. I likewise used kitchen shears to cut downward the time it takes to chop the beef. This was adept but not nearly equally skilful as I remembered it. Since the SODIUM is OUT OF THIS Earth I probably won't make it again for another 20 years! Personally, the USMC SOS recipe was much meliorate tasting that was made with ground beef.
08/05/2008
Delish! A quick and easy recipe that my whole family enjoyed. I could not notice the dried beef in a jar, so I used the carl budig thin sliced pastrami lunch meat. I cut information technology into strips and heated in a fry pan earlier adding information technology to the white sauce. Served over thick toasted slices of challah breadstuff. And so good, I will take to double the recipe next time!!
01/07/2008
Recently, I found myself craving this recipe although I hadn't eaten it since my early childhood. My family of six wasn't exactly poor simply we had to make simple meals stretch far so the 'chipped beefiness' was Land-O-Frost lunchmeat, the toast was English language muffins, and seasoning was common salt and pepper. I substituted those same ingredients over again and this recipe was even so FANTASTIC! Tasted exactly how I remembered! Savoring it once again tonight took me dorsum over 30 yrs., when usa four kids were madly lapping it upwards and fighting for seconds (and thirds)! THANK You lot for the yummy recipe and wonderful walk downwards retentivity lane.
10/20/2011
The men in the family love this just I apply 4 TB butter, four TB flour and 2 cups of milk and 2 pkg corned beefiness. I rut the 2 cups of milk in microwave for a couple minutes and add milk all at once to the roux so I don't take to spend forever stirring it.
09/02/2008
This is a great recipe. i did double it though and used ii cups of heavy cream and 1 cup of milk. Yummmmmmmmy!!!!
10/21/2000
one of my familys favorites when I say "ok tonights gonna be a quick 1...what do you want?" : )
10/03/2000
This recipe tastes simply like the commercial kind. Very tasty. Instead of beef in a jar, I used wafer sliced beef dejeuner meat..it worked slap-up!
04/xiv/2011
I love this repast. I add chopped hard boiled eggs and peas and chopped onion. My young man loves it and I make enough so we have leftovers.
04/14/2011
Every bit my mom did, I add 2 coursely chopped, hard-cooked eggs. I too add some frozen peas to make a 'full repast' out of it, and I serve it over country buttermilk biscuits. And don't add ANY salt to this! And to those having trouble making white sauce, you tin mix the milk & flour together first (I employ cold milk, or one-half & half) in a measuring loving cup and add to melted butter all at once.
01/30/2011
DH requested I make this. I accept to admit I really did not want to but glad I did.I tasted a bite off of DH's plate, it isn't bad and really easy to make. Only draw dorsum is the sodium content. DH ate the whole affair and so that was 6,564mg of sodium. I would accident up similar a balloon. If you don't have a sodium problem I would suggest trying this, you may similar it.
02/14/2011
Only similar mom used to make. Except ameliorate.
x/28/2013
Nifty recipe only my family constitute that 8 oz of dried beef to be overwhelming. I used one (1) two.25 oz jar of Armour dried beef and ground mixed peppercorns in the next endeavor. It was a success!! I as well took me back to my days in the Marine Corps!!
02/05/2011
excellant resturant quality This will be my become to recipe from now on. definatly soak ur chiiped beef if u don't want it salty
04/xiv/2011
This is simply like my Mom's just where;south the peas and boiled eggs? Reminds me of my childhood.
03/18/2012
Upon a review and proposition I used dejeuner meat and I would have to say use the stale beef it would had been much better. The cream sauce seemed to be missing that flavour that comes with it and that may had been due to using the dejeuner meat instead of the dried beefiness. So I would mayhap endeavor this again just I would utilise the dried beef and perhaps a tablespoon more of butter.
02/07/2008
I had left over corned beef from a brisket I had fabricated and used this instead of the jar beef. I used the food processor and chopped it all upwardly. I fabricated a double batch for 2 teenage boys. I warmed the milk in the microwave first for v mins that way it doesn't scald and makes it faster to brand. I also warmed the meat in the microwave for 2 mins. I also added a pinch of garlic salt because it was too bland for my gustation. While the milk was in the microwave I made the butter flour mixture, and when the meat was in the microwave I did the toast and then put the meat in the sauce and information technology was washed in 10 minutes. Very easy and fast and the kids ate it all!!!
01/xvi/2012
Delicious! I oasis't made this in ages and it hit the spot this evening.I used one/2 stick butter and approx 1/2 cup of flour..be sure and cook that a minute or two to get rid of the flour gustation. I and then added the milk, slowly stirring and concluding added two pkgs of chipped beef that I sliced in i/iv inch slices. Ever a family unit favorite.
03/08/2008
This recipe is entirely too salty every bit written. I had to throw it away. We couldn't eat information technology. Do not use stale beef in a jar. Perhaps package from common cold cut department would be ok.
10/02/2011
This was good, I added pepper to gustatory modality.
xi/fourteen/2010
Nosotros all enjoyed this chipped beef for dinner (myself, my married man, my 5 year old son and 4 year old daughter). I rinsed the beefiness, merely I think that I must have "over" rinsed information technology. I rinsed every single piece while running the remainder of the beef nether water in a collander. The consequence was that it actually ended up needing salt, IMO. This is my own fault of course. :n) the cream was great, and adjacent time I'll be less meticulous with my rinsing. Not sure if I prefer this over Stouffers, since Stouffers is obviously easier to make, which is why information technology got 4 instead of 5.
01/xv/2008
Doubled the recipe and but used ii-4 oz. jars and it was fine. I rinsed only one jar and was just right for common salt. Family loved it.
02/07/2012
My mother used to make this when I was a child for united states of america all the time since nosotros didn't take very much money. Information technology's my absolute favorite. it's simple, easy, and brings back memories. it's non a flavorful dish if you're looking for something fancy and awakening, but if you take the same reasoning as i practise, it's just a condolement food. And to make information technology better, my mom e'er put chopped hard-boiled eggs in hers. YUM! :)
eleven/09/2007
I take made this recipe a couple of times and each time it has been GREAT! I like to add together some frozen corn to mine. It is indeed wonderful comfort food. It is incredibly cheap, quick and like shooting fish in a barrel. I would propose buying dried beef for this and not using the lunch meat equally someone suggested. I tried it the commencement fourth dimension that I fabricated information technology to save money, simply was disappointed by the taste. No demand to salt a second fourth dimension when using the dried beef right from the jar.
09/04/2013
I increased the sauce as some others did and this turned out perfect! I've fabricated this earlier several times, but never with the cayenne and information technology fabricated a wonderful deviation. I also similar to put some scramble eggs on meridian of mine as well...just another footling touch on that makes it better.
02/xv/2011
Yup, just similar Mom's!
01/05/2014
I grew up eating this, I beloved it! I didn't see information technology on this recipe, simply I've always had sliced difficult boiled eggs in mine too mixed in with the "gravy" and stale beef. It'due south fantabulous!!
03/09/2009
It reminded me of the frozen Stauffer's, what I grew upward with. I doubled the recipe for 4 people. I used jar beefiness and drained information technology twice. Since I drained the beef it needed a little common salt. I didn't put in the cayenne pepper. I put in black pepper instead. I serve it on toast.
01/05/2011
and so good! Comfort food on a common cold day.
02/10/2013
You lot demand to double the recipe. The portion of roux to chipped beef is sparse. It only makes enough for two people or comprehend 4 pieces of toast and the chipped beef is really salty even though I rinsed the chip beef in hot water and let it boil in the roux. Next time I'll double the recipe and boil the chipped beefiness in water before adding to the roux.
04/15/2011
I have been making chipped beefiness on toast for years. I start out with olive oil instead of butter. More healthy. Add flour slowly to oil, lower rut and stir until information technology gets slightly brown. Add milk and several drops of Wright's full-bodied Hickory Seasoning (liquid smoke). salt & pepper to taste. In the Navy they call it (SOS- on a shingle)
01/08/2003
This is my daughter's all-fourth dimension favorite breakfast. She eats it in one case a week. I utilise the Buddig brand Corned Beef and poultry seasoning instead of cayenne. Over Xmas intermission used leftover cubed ham instead and foam instead of milk, just every bit adept, if non amend.
11/02/2011

The hubby could not become plenty of this yummy comfort food. I used Carl Buding beef and doubled the sauce. The cayenne pepper gave information technology a little heat which was squeamish, add together more than if you like the spice. Served with veggies on the side. Will be making this one once again and over again.

I tripled the sauce and used half a pd of dried beef chipped from the cafeteria. We eat this when nosotros go out for breakfast. Yous tin can put it over scrabbled eggs, fried taters, or the most popular is toast. I liked this better than what nosotros leave, and everyone in the firm liked it. Thanks for the recipe.

Just like the kind mom used to brand. I used a package of budding beef and chopped it upwards. I had to double the recipe for my family of 4 though.

We are beefiness farmers and dried beef is in the freezer. This is just about the merely manner we like stale beef. I was looking hither for more ideas of what to make with it and plant that I had already tried them all: chicken broil, creamed beefiness, and overnight casserole. Our favorite way of eating creamed beefiness is either over fried hash browns or waffles. I always seasoned this with a petty fleck of nutmeg and beef goop and seasoning pulverization, but this night I volition try the pepper.

This is an erstwhile stand-by recipe that I accept prepared for my family unit for years. I apply 2 packages the Buddig beef, double the cream sauce and add but a dash of both onion powder and garlic powder, along with salt and pepper to taste before I chop and add the beef and serve over toast. With these changes, I'd give this recipe 5 stars. A quick and easy meal!

Had a deep want for creamed chipped beef this evening. Being merely after mid-March I as well had some leftover corned beef. Used it in this basic roux recipe and it is wonderful. Cheers Lisa for posting. Also my father taught me how to cook very rich so I used 1/3 heavy whipping cream to 2/three+- pure water as my liquid in making my roux. Much creamier sense of taste and texture= richer flavor.
